Last week, I taught the second half of a two-hour CLE seminar for the Birmingham Bar Association titled “Appellate Brief Writing and Preservation of Issues.” Thirty-three lawyers signed up to see Scott Brown and Katie Bushby of the Maynard Cooper law firm delve into the detailed topic of preservation of issues for appeal. They covered everything from voire dire of a jury to post-judgment motions and provided excellent materials. In the second hour, I followed with a discussion of tips and techniques for writing a persuasive appellate brief. The feedback we received from the attendees was excellent. One person commented that it was one of the very best CLE seminars they had ever attended.
